Born on Long Island, Matt Matros is a poker player and poker author.
Matros learned how to play poker with his friends during high school, where he graduated at the top of his class. He then went to Yale where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics. After graduation, Matros got a job as a software quality engineer while playing poker on the side. In 2002, he decided to quit work in order to pursue his passion for writing. He went to Sara Lawrence College and enrolled in the writing program and then got a book deal to write, "The Making of a Poker Player".
While still in school, he cashed in the New England Poker Classic and World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). In 2004, Matros placed 3rd in a WPT event during season 2 where he earned $706,903. Later, during season 7, he would finish 7th and take home $95,097.
In addition to his WPT accomplishments (3 cashes), he has 14 WSOP cashes (all since 2005). In 2008, he finished 6th in a $1,500 No-Limit WSOP event for $148,875 and cashed in the main event the same year. Matros has total earnings of $800,000 and continues to write.
