Mark Seif

Mark Seif is a professional poker player from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Born in 1967 in Egypt, Seif moved to the United States with his family when he was a young boy and attended high school in Pasadena, California. After that, he graduated in 1991 from UCLA with high honors with a bachelor's degree in Economics. From 1994 to 1997, he attended Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. After he graduated, Seif was selected as a prosecutor for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office and his job involved him working on the OJ Simpson trial. From 1997 to 2001, Seif was a practicing attorney specializing in representing management in labor and employment law, including sexual harassment law. His clients included large multi-national corporations and small businesses. Later in his career, he handled some criminal cases involving serious felonies, including first degree murder.

Seif first learned to play poker around age 6 by participating in a family game. He feels that his experience as a lawyer helps him at the table in reading his opponents. He was using his analytical abilities to play high-stakes games when he won more than a half a million in cash games at the 2001 WSOP. It was then in 2001 when he started to playing poker professionally.

Seif's career took off when he made it to the 2002 WPT Legends of Poker final table and finished in fourth place. In May 2003, Seif had his first WSOP cash in the $3,000 no limit Texas hold'em event, finishing in 9th place at a final table that included Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, and Erik Seidel.

Seif's biggest accomplishment happened when he won two WSOP bracelets back-to-back in 2005, winning $181,330 in the $1,500 limit hold'em shootout and $611,145 in the $1,500 no limit hold'em events. He beat a field of 450 players in the first event and 2,013 players in the second event (the third largest field in WSOP history), which had Greg Raymer and Dave Ulliott at the final table. His back-to-back bracelet wins is among the greatest accomplishments in WSOP history considering the size of the fields.

Later in 2005, Seif won the US Poker Championship in seven-card stud at the Taj Majal in Atlantic City, New Jersey for $ 55,000 and th en made the final table at the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) that same year.

In 2007, during season 5 of the WPT, he finished 4th at the 2007 World Poker Challenge in Reno, winning $159,478. During season 7, he finished 5th at the Borgata Poker Open for $287,500.

Seif is a commentator for the Professional Poker Tour on the Travel Channel, was a WPT Boot Camp instructor, and has been representing Absolute Poker since 2004.

As of 2009, Seif has 2 WSOP bracelets, 9 WSOP cashes, and total live tournament winnings exceeding $3,400,000.

Must acknowledge WSOP Braclets.........BUT A PROSECUTOR HAS
TO BE, AND WILL ALWAYS BE, A [edited], who doesn't
care if your guilty or not, only cares about winning his case.

Mark, just saw the reply of your back to back victory at this year's WSOP. Knew the name and face right when I turned it on. You were two classes ahead of me at La Salle High School. My name is Kevin Coffin(mcklof@earthlink.net). Congrats on an awesome accomplishment. Let's go LAN-CERS!!

mcklof on September 22, 2005

I think he is Mark Seif on AbsolutePoker and MarkDShark on Stars. I think he has some other ones too.

captainNdiet on August 9, 2005

This guy is pathetic. He expects too much justice at the poker table, like if he's all in with 88 and someone calls with KA he just loses it if they catch a king or ace coz technically he's the favourite (albeit small).

Unregistered on July 25, 2005

WTF? Mark Seif's accomplishment at the WSOP this year will probably NEVER BE REPEATED-EVER! Back to back bracelets? Forget about it!

Clapper11 on July 22, 2005

Mark knocked me out of event #22. We were down to 33 tables and I floped trip queens, he had the pot odds so after I went all in he called me with pocket 7's.(the flop was 2, Ace, Queen) Runner, runner later I was walking away. One of the worst beats in my life and most likely everybody will be able to see it on 9/20 on ESPN. He was gracious about it but the idiot spectators gave him a hard time. That's poker I am just glad he went on to win. (FYI: at the time of that hand he had 13% of the total chips in play with about 360,000. I had twice the average stack with about 58,000. It was an easy risk for him since he couldn't have put me on pocket Queens.)

KyFats on July 13, 2005

i am intrigued...it is so very interesting, that I spent the last ten mins out of my day....to read about you....and I liked it. k-

I heard Seif signed with Absolutepoker.com and that they started offering higher games so I checked it out. Damn they had a lot more action than before and the 25-50 holdem game was the wildest game I have ever seen! Screw Party. I'm going to give it a shot this weekend.

D-RILLO / drillo1981 on September 13, 2004

I have played with Mark at Absolutepoker.com and I must say he is awsome! He has a table named after him there. AND as if that isn't enough, that Mark Seif "stare" is on his icon whenever he is sitting at a table. Always a pleasure with Mark.

Unregistered on September 12, 2004

Mark has signed on with Absolute Poker and plays there quite regularly. He is very down to earth and friendly and quite a comic. He has not let his celebrity status get to his head. I was very impressed by him and he is a GREAT Poker player, you can learn alot from him.

mark is one of the sweetest guys and if you didn't know this before he was an attorney for the D.A .very intelligent guy,and very polite and handsome

Queen of poker on August 27, 2004

I see now why the pros are so much better than the amateurs. I was at the Bicycle club's Legends of Poker no-limit holdem tournament today and was sitting at Mark Seif's table and saw two amazing plays by him. The first was when two players just called in early position and Mark raised it to 5 times the big blind. Everyone folded to the small blind who then just doubled Mark's raise to 10 times the big blind. The two limpers folded and Mark almost instantly folds A-Q suited face up, the re-raiser shows pocket aces!!! A few hands later Mark makes a small raise about 3 times the big blind, everyone folds to the big blind who calls. The flop comes K-2-4. The big blind makes a small bet, Mark calls. The turn is a Q, the big blind bets a medium size bet again Mark calls. The river is a 9 or something like that and the big blind bets a medium size bet again. Mark almost immediately calls, the big blind shows A-2 off for a pair of twos, and Mark flips over A-4 suited to take down a good size pot with only a pair of fours. What amazing reads!! And it seemed like he was doing that the whole time. He made a believer out of me!

Tommy on August 13, 2004

I remember Mark when he was a waiter at the best BBQ Rib Joint in L.A., Robin's Woodfire BBQ in Pasadena. He was our favorite because he was quick & smart. We knew he'd be successful at what ever he did. Keep up the good work Mark.

flush80 what have you been smokin? Seif is known as very hard to move off a hand when he gets involved in a pot. Did you see when he called Hon Le with bottom pair like 3s or something against Hon's 2 pair at Legends?

Mark Seif and Hon Le are at the final table of the California State Championship $1000 no limit holdem event today!!!! Im goin!

SOCAL PUNKIE on June 8, 2004

...no...you suck. As much as I hate to say it, Hon Le is probably one of the best ever. Many fear him, as well they should.

I luv it when he goes heads up with Hon Le and Hon drills him o the floor boards with his kamakazi style. Seif is good, but is in no way a match for Hon the Great!!

I met Mark Seif last night at the WSOP at the Horseshoe. He seemed like a real nice guy he was talking to a couple of people downstairs in the area where they hold the 1 table satellites. I was playing at a table right next to where he was standing. Then something funny as hell happened. There was this drunk guy that kept bothering him and saying things like "oh I've seen you on TV" and "you should have played better and not let that oriental guy put you on tilt man" etc etc. Mark kind of laughed it off at first but you could just see Mark starting to get irritated after a while. After about 5 minutes of this guy talking loudly and kind of leaning real close to Mark and putting his arm on his shoulder Mark said something like he had to go somewhere. The guy then grabs Mark's arm as Mark was starting to walk away. Mark turned around and said something like what F**k are you doing and shot him that deadly killer I'm going to kill you look! It made the guy just about piss his pants! It was hilarious the guy said he was sorry and just stood there for a full minute in total shock kind of swaying back and forth then he just quietly walked away. It was priceless.

I just read a post on RGP by Mark Seif and it was about Paul Phillips. For a guy who looks and acts the "tough guy" role from what I've seen on TV, he sounds like a pretty nice guy. He is also very well spoken. Its nice to see a seemingly sharp guy embrace poker as he has. I root for him too.
