James Woods

Born in 1947, James Woods is one of Hollywood's best-known actors. Some of highly-acclaimed performances include Oliver Stone's Salvador and Rob Reiner's Ghosts of Mississippi. Some of his more popular movies include: Martin Scorsese's Casino, Nixon, The Virgin Suicides, and The Hard Way. He is currently living and working in Los Angeles.

As a youth, he showed evidence of genius-level intelligence when he scored a perfect 800 on the verbal component of the SAT at age 17 and his IQ has been reported to be 180. With many educational options to choose from, he chose to study political science at MIT. It was at MIT where he was first exposed to acting, taking part in over 30 plays during his time there. He left college before graduating in order to start acting as a profession. After a couple of years of struggling to get by, he was able to land a couple of small acting jobs, which he eventually leveraged into greater success.

Over the past few years, he has played poker regularly and has become a celebrity spokesperson for Hollywood Poker, along with Vince Van Patten. He got introduced to hold 'em by his friend who thought Woods's intellectual and mathematical skills would serve him well at poker. Like many others players, he made money during his first session and was instantly hooked. He credits his study of game theory at MIT with helping his poker game.

His only cashes in significant tournaments have been a 100th place finish in the 2006 WSOP $2,000 Hold 'Em Event and 24th place finish in a WPT event during season 4. Woods can be found in the card rooms of L.A. and Las Vegas playing both tournaments and cash games.

I just saw him muck the winning hand after play completed,in the PPT....last bettor had 2-2...he asked player next to him if he had a pair, the guy said yes, then Woods threw away 4-4,
second player raked the pot with 3-3!

WOW HE SUCKS! This guy can't even beat other celebrities.

Ummm, I think your IQ must be stuck around the 20s. He was never in Jaws troll!

James just give it up. You're not winning any respect in the game, you're wasting time and money. Get back to acting already.

james on July 3, 2005

I hear good things about his play, but he couldn't even beat the TERRIBLE players on Celebrity Poker Showdown.

I played in a cash game against woods at the Bellagio for about 4 hours. He's very bright but a clear weakness in his game is his huge ego. After losing a couple of pots he started to challenge when he didn't have the cards and finally donated his entire stack. Fun guy.

JK. on May 17, 2005

Sat to the right of him at one table in Heavenly Hold Em event #1 2005 and he was holding a pretty nice stack at the time. I was SB and he was BB. Nice story: Flop came 4D5D6C, I checked my set of 5's, James went all in, with 23456... nice move! I folded my set, and rabbit hunted out a 4 on the turn... Worked out for the best anyways, since I happily took third in the event.

Fred on May 6, 2005

h yeah. Forgot to mention, he is a real nice laid back guy and a pleasure to sit next to at the table.

Fred on May 6, 2005

just another celebrity chump.

I think Jimmy is a decent player. I actually have played against him, so Roy Batty if he is such a fish and you want to take his money join Hollywood Poker. The URL is www.hollywoodpoker.com and a bunch of celebrities play online poker there.BTW...He is a great actor!

if not THE best

You know who you are? You are nobody on February 28, 2005

One of the best actors in hollywood.

Vegas Mike on February 17, 2005

I think he played a superb rol in the Cincinnati kid. Especially when he meet´s that russian who can´t seem to stop eating oreo´s. Then his partner Mike McBoyd bails him out, but they´re still stuck with that annoying loanshark Humberto Brenes.

ah u2 on February 4, 2005

I worked him so bad at the Commerce Club once, he took a beating at the table which kind of reminded me of the beating he took in the movie Casino by DeNiro's crew.

LESTER DIAMOND on January 21, 2005

Uhm.Haven't seen him playin' but he's dam great at acting I can tell ya.And no, I ain't Scottish.English isn't my native language anyway.Yeah. The point is, that he's simply the best. Way to go!Can't wait to see/hear more of him.

You know who you are? You are nobody on January 5, 2005

Sheesh. This has gotta be the worst picture of him they could get.

You know who you are? You are nobody on January 5, 2005

He plays the game, and has plenty of money...who cares if he sucks? Come one over James let's play

Shaun. on December 14, 2004

for a poker player hes a great actor...his skill is minimal as far as his gold swing worst swing honors go to charles barkley...there is no worse....woods needs to stick to acting ..

djnpa_30 on November 30, 2004

He seems pretty cool. I think he made a mistake getting involved with Celebrity Poker. Most of the so-called 'celebrities' (who the F is Donnie Deutsch?) they get on that show don't have a clue. Woods does have a clue.

slvsc2 on November 16, 2004

He's an MIT boy--he will pick it up fast.

Steve on October 15, 2004

Played with him at the Heavenly Holdem Tournament at Commerce, Overall Solid Player, overplays Big Slick. I think he got 15th out of 787

sam on October 2, 2004

I saw this dude at Commerce Casino is LA, and I also saw him playing golf. He's got quite possibly the worst golf swing I've ever seen.

Fielder on September 28, 2004

Would love to play him...A huge fish with a huge bankroll.CHA-CHING$$$

roy batty on September 22, 2004

I take it you're better than him then? So whats your prize takings so far then?

Unregistered on September 20, 2004

I think he's great.

Unregistered on September 20, 2004

He sucks. I've watched him a couple times on celebrity poker. He plays too conservative goes out right away, then blames the cards. When he was on the hollywood home game he never used his ask the expert card like he was too good for it.

milwgirl on September 20, 2004
