Cost to host a home poker game

Introduction

The cost to host a home poker game is broken into 2 groups: mandatory costs (for things you need), and optional costs (for things you don't need). You can check out my home poker game spreadsheet if you want a calculator to see how much the game will cost you over the long run.

  • Mandatory costs

The only mandatory costs are the costs for the cards and the chips. You can get regular cards (i.e. Bicycle playing cards) for $2 per pack. More expensive Kem cards will cost about $15. Poker chips will run you about $20 for a set of $300 to $40 for a set of 500. These are for used poker chips. In my opinion, there is no need to buy new chips.

  • Optional costs

Some poker game hosts will also put out food for people. If you do this, it will probably cost about $10 per night. But this is entirely optional.

A good used poker table may cost you about $50-$100 depending on the quality. Many casual games are just played on a kitchen table that doesn't cost anything.
